No place for hate

I was debating writing this post, but ultimately felt called to because it’s quite heartbreaking what’s been happening. I’m sure by now you’ve all heard of the event in Charlottesville, the event that attempted to defend white supremacy & racism. This is not the first time an event like this has occurred, but there have been fatalities and it’s a hot topic right now. We cannot let this go on. First and foremost, I want to pray for and ask y’all to pray for the people in Charlottesville & the families & people affected by this horrific event, this terrorism.

I respect everyone’s first amendment rights to speech & protest, but that also means I have the freedom to speak out on what I believe is right as well. And I DO NOT support hateful & derogatory speech. Our words and actions should not be used to hurt other people & there are consequences for us all if we do. This is the same way. I am a conservative, and racism and white supremacy are NOT conservative values. That’s a very misconstrued idea that stems from the far right/alt-rights belief systems. Conservatives believe in equality, freedom and rights for all- just as the constitution says. It’s heartbreaking that in 2017, people still believe they are superior to other people just because of the color of their skin. It makes absolutely no sense to me. And the fact that this rally took place behind the idea that white people are losing rights or being oppressed.. HOW are we being oppressed? Oppression exists in this world, even in this country, but it’s because of hateful groups like this that initiate it. I cannot fathom the thought process that could make someone believe this way, but I think it’s easy to say our country needs some major. As far as human rights, freedom and opportunities go, we are one of the most blessed countries on this earth & we often take that for granted and abuse our freedoms. We should not use them to harm or suppress other people’s rights or opportunities. It’s not logical. So for a group to march & declare that they are the superior race and spread hateful narratives makes me sick to the stomach. I am white, and I completely denounce this horrid ideology and deeply desire for it to end. I am human just like every other person of every race- which means I make mistakes & have my own individual talents and skills. I am not better than a single person on this earth and my race is most certainly not either. It’s honestly an unfathomable concept & I don’t understand how racism ever became a thing, but it must stop! I pray that we can all get along despite our political belief systems & unite as a country- a diverse and multicultural country. We must remember the concept from our DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, what our country was founded on- “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This is what it said. ALL men. Not “all men are created equal if they are white.” I truly don’t understand how this idea came to be. There are photos from the event showing the “nazi salute-” which is illegal in Germany, by the way, and we all know what happened back in the 40’s- that’s a deliberate symbol of hatred and racism and we cannot allow it to consume what we as Christians, and we as Americans stand for.

I pray the “white nationalists” open their eyes to the truth. Do not use the Bible to back up your argument because the Bible disagrees with hatred, racism and oppression- and newsflash: Jesus was NOT white. Everyone is beautiful and capable and deserving of love and respect, the color of skin should have never been a cause for discrimination, but it has been and it’s long past time for this to end. We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. So if we hate our neighbors, that’s implying we hate ourselves… and we definitely shouldn’t do that because God created each of us uniquely and with a purpose, a purpose to love and spread God’s love.

I urge anyone reading this to stop what you’re doing and pray, but also don’t be afraid to speak out, stand up and DO SOMETHING. We cannot just sit idly by and watch the hatred unfold, it’s our duty to make this the best place we can, and make disciples of all men. We want as many people as possible to enter the kingdom of Heaven & how can we make disciples of we ignore discrimination and hatred, or if we deliver it? I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to hang out with mean people or consider their opinions or beliefs after they’ve treated me badly, so how can we expect other people to accept Christianity if we as Christians fail to share the gospel, Christ’s love & unity. If we don’t do something to stop the hate, we may as well be perpetuating it. And we cannot allow people to twist God’s word to push their narratives that are completely unbiblical. We aren’t perfect and we cannot act like we are.

Declaring superiority/supremacy for your race implies your race is perfect and others are not- I mean look at what happened during the holocaust, it’s sickening. I urge you, stand up to the hatred & pray for those spreading hate to have a change of heart. We have to remember that when we take a stand, we cannot be hateful back. Obviously we disagree and want that know, but spewing hateful words or inflicting violence against these people helps no one. As Martin Luther King jr. once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only love can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” America is truly a great country, but we must address its problems in order to fix them & we should always strive for a better, safer country and world. America was created to be a place for freedoms and diversity that isn’t available in many other countries- and we must remember that. America is no place for hate.

I’m going to end this with a few bible verses that should remind us to treat everyone with love and respect.

God loves ALL of us. No matter our appearance or background- our identity should be in him.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

Jesus himself spoke these words. Go and make disciples of ALL nations. Not just nations of people of your own race. Loving people is sharing the gospel with them, and sharing the gospel is loving people. You cannot do this while perpetuating hatred.

We can’t claim that we are superior in God’s eyes because we aren’t & by claiming to do so and putting others down we are fooling ourselves and not realizing what is true.

Let’s all spread more love & less hate, at all ends of the spectrum. Pray for those who disagree with, dislike & persecute us. It’s the least we could do. Now by writing this post, I am by no means intending on passing judgement to these people. We should love them the same- love the sinner, hate the sin, because we’re all imperfect and cannot judge people for sinning differently than us. I just wanted to address that these ideals are not Christian/Biblical ones and should not be referred to as such, and also encourage y’all to join me in trying to shine a light, and help these people realize the truth that is in Christ. I want all people to understand and feel this and have the desire to shout God’s goodness from the rooftops and share it with everyone they meet. I struggle doing this myself, but I don’t think it’s an unrealistic goal. If we try do something to stop hatred and make people feel loved and respected, we can much more effective in this. Christ is all about love & it would be awful for this relationship and belief system to be seen in any other way- we must not stand idly by, y’all. Go out and LOVE.

That’s all I had to say about that for now. In a way this kind of responds to my One Nation Under God posts, and I really just want to keep improving our country and bring God back into it.
